abbeyhill primary was my first school i attended 1963 for 3 years and lived in Beggs Buildings, so i have good memories

P7 camp was soooo fun i luv it. i want to go there again but this time maybe longer. and i cant believe i done all those stuff like climbed up a 25m tall tree!

well I was a student at this school from 1961 to 1966. my i thought it was a large place. how misleading is retrospective thought. it was a great school though and one with lots of fond memeories.

Hi, I am really sad and also angry that the Council are going to close down such a good school. My son Ben is at the school and loves it. My youngest son Kieran would have been going into the school nursery early next year. Are they actually thinking about the children or just a way to save more money. Please email back.

Very disappointed in the news to merge Abbeyhill with Leith Primary.
The councils reason does not make sense. Abbeyhill has 199 students out of a possible 219 places. Leith Primary is half empty. Surely it would make more sense to transfer Leith to Abbeyhill. The council also states that a high percentage of students are from outwith the catchment area. Surely the reason for this is that Abbeyhill is an excellent school. It is every parents legal right to send their children to any school provided there are places. This supports Abbeyhill's excellent reputation.
I am sure everyone agrees that Abbeyhill provides fantastic teaching skills and facilities to our students.

Just to say that Abbeyhill was a great school, where I've had lots of funny memories.
I went there from 1998 - 2004 and everyone was great- even the teachers :).
I'm now in s3 down in England and I'm loving it.

I am a former pupil of Abbeyhill Primary. I attended the school between 1963 and 1971. I am so sad to hear of the school's impending closure. I hope there might be an opportunity for Former Pupils to visit the school before it closes for good, perhaps a School Reunion evening or something similar.

hello everybody, first time visiting the site i was a pupil here from 1971-1976 taking the tour brought back some fond memories, the place has changed so much Abbeyhill was a fantastic school with great teachers (mrs macandlish) love to hear from anybody from that time thanks for all the memories.

Abbeyhill school is the best because it has a SWIMMING POOL and a very big playground too. In our school we have a behavior chart . When you are on a green card thats mean that you were good when you are on a white card it's just a warning when you are on a yellow card that means that you were bad and if you on a red card that means that you've been very bad.Today the people that have been on a green card were making chicks for Easter . In our class we have more boys than girls. In our school we have smart boards. When we have time and we've been good at the end of the day we play games on the smart board. Our teacher is called MISS MORGAN AND SHE MAKE US LAUGH . WE LIKE OUR SCHOOL.

I first came to abbeyhill in 1991/92 when I joined the nursery. I went on to spend another seven years in the primary school and i would just like to say a thanks to any staff remaining at the school from that time for making it such an enjoyable experience. WOW! I live in the U.S.A. now but I used to live in Scotland when I was four and five. I went to P1 and I have Mrs. Little! I remember her so well, and I still love her and I hope that she is doing great! Does she still teach? If so I hopes she remembers me! It was 1995 and 1996 that I lived there. I also hope that my friends are still doing good! Abbeyhill is an awesome school and I love it!!!! I miss it too! I am so home sick!!! Good website but, as a past pupil I'm a little disappointed to find no history or old photographs...I left the school in 1963...I visited friendsreunited.co.uk recently as I was hoping to see how all of my old classmates are getting on but unfortunately Abbeyhill's past pupils and teachers haven't contributed very much to the site...I have fond memories of my Headmaster Mr O'Neil and my teacher Mr Sutherland and the janitor Mr Cummings...anyone share my memories???

Hi to Abbeyhill Primary,
I started my formal education at Abbeyhill Primary in 1955 as a small 5 year old living at the foot of the "Colonies" in Rossie Place and left for Secondary as a not much bigger 12 year old in 1962. I can remember Mr. Dunnet as the headmaster of the day and such teachers as Miss Drysdale (also a Sunday School teacher at Abbeyhill Church) Mrs. Cameron (an Australian I think) which is quite ironic as I now live in Perth Western Australia. My best memories are of learning to swim in the school baths and Mr. Cunningham ( one of the Janitors who ran the football team and was employed by Hibs at one point from memory.) Who could forget the football games at the back of the school at "Beggies" and many a hopeful Hibs or Hearts future player dreaming of a Cup win at the time !! What about the wee sweetie shop at the back of "beggies" as well !!!.
Hopefully one day I can return for a Schooll Reunion in 2006. Long live the Abbeyhill Memory.

Hello from an old pupil (1946 on) who remembers Abbeyhill fondly.Glad to seeyou are thriving but sorry the old clock tower has gone...it was my "clock" as I could see it from my home in Milton Street.

I have two children at Abbeyhill and they love it. All the staff are approachable and friendly.

We think the website will be useful for parents wanting to know about our school.We liked the graphics. Our school is an enjoyable place to be because the children are pleasant and the staff are friendly and kind.

Abbeyhill is a great place to work. The children are stars and each day is different.
